Leprosy

  • Organization started in 1955 to treat and rehabilitate leprosy patients.
  • Designated leprosy control unit for Trichy and Pudukottai since 1972 to till the declaration eradication of leprosy in India in 1997 under National Leprosy Eradicate Programme(NLEP).
  • Partner NGO - Damien foundation India Trust Since 1972 in leprosy and Tuberculosis control activities.
  • Since the eradication of leprosy in 1997, functioning as tertiary referral centre for leprosy diagnosis and the management of complications.(Reaction, ulcers and surgical correction of deformities)
  • Functioning as training centre on leprosy for doctors and the paramedical staff of public health department.
  • Providing technical support to the government in establishing disability prevention and medical rehabilitation (DPMR) under National Leprosy Eradication programme in four districts. ( Trichy, Pudukottai, Karur and Perambalur)

Rehabilitation

  • The rehabilitation of leprosy patients is being carried out to the poor, needy, disabled stigmatized leprosy patients since 1955. More than 100 pairs of men and women, who is stigmatized, destitute, disabled leprosy patients are united in marriage, arranged them to lead purposeful life by providing them, shelter, job and adequate opportunities to lead a decent life.
  • Suitable vocational training is arranged according to the aptitude and deformities of the individual patient in the following trade - farming, weaving, mat weaving, goat rearing, dairy and other enterprises.
  • New house construction and renovation of the dilapidated houses of the poor disabled patients is being done on priority basis.

Awareness Education (IEC)

Awareness of leprosy is a continuous on going programme, which has been going on in Trichy and Pudukottai districts in association with Government department, Non governmental organization, Educational institution and with Industrial units in the field. Medical camps are conducted in rural areas to bring out the hidden cases of leprosy.
